What dermal filler is for
Filler is a gel made from hyaluronic acid, something your skin already makes. It is placed under the skin to restore volume, add definition, or soften a line that sits there even when your face is still.
That makes it the opposite job to anti-wrinkle injections, which relax a muscle. Plenty of people end up having a little of both, but they solve different problems, and Rachel will tell you which one your face actually needs.
Where it goes
Cheeks
Cheeks are usually the first thing to lose volume, and when they flatten the whole middle of the face drops with them. Adding a little back can lift how tired you look more than treating the lines themselves would.
Chin and jaw
A small chin or a soft jawline shapes the whole profile and the way the lower face reads. Enhancing it is often the quiet difference that makes people ask if you have lost weight.
Lines around the mouth
The lines from the nose to the corners of the mouth, and from the corners down towards the chin, can be softened rather than erased. Erasing them entirely is what makes a face look treated.
Lips
Lips have their own page, because there is more to say about them than fits here: lip filler in Wath upon Dearne.
If you already have filler you are not happy with
Rachel can dissolve filler placed by someone else, and refill afterwards if that is what you want. This is one of the most common reasons people come to a nurse prescriber, and there is no lecture attached. Bring whatever you know about what was used and when.
Dissolving is not instant and it is not always one appointment. Rachel will be straight with you about what it will take.
What happens on the day
Rachel goes through your medical history, looks at your face properly, and talks through what would actually help. Numbing cream goes on first. The filler itself contains anaesthetic, so it becomes more comfortable as she works.
Afterwards
- Swelling for two or three days, most noticeable the morning after
- Bruising is possible, so leave a clear two weeks before a wedding or a holiday
- No gym, sauna or alcohol for twenty four hours
- Do not book a facial or a massage over the area for two weeks
The final result settles at around two to four weeks, once the swelling has gone.
Safety
Filler is not a beauty product and it is not risk free. Rachel is a registered nurse and an independent prescriber, she is trained in managing complications, and she holds the medicine used to dissolve filler in an emergency. That is the question worth asking anyone you are considering, not just her.
